The Deutschlandticket was introduced at 49 euros per month in 2023, increased to 58 euros in 2025, and will become 63 euros in 2026. From 2027, price increases will be decided according to an index rather than through negotiations between federal and state governments and transport associations.
Overall operational costs including employee salaries, energy costs, and material costs continue to rise.
The continuing popularity of the Deutschlandticket means that transport associations are bringing in less money from ticket sales.
Costs for maintaining and improving infrastructure to provide safe and reliable public transport services are increasing.
From 2027, Deutschlandticket price increases will be decided according to an index.
The price index will reflect transport associations' employment costs, energy costs, and general operational cost increases over a three to five-year timeframe. This will enable more predictable and transparent pricing.
